Do you have any second thoughts of riding a Harley Sporster883 Superlow thinking it is a  chick bike? Do you feel embarrass to ride a Harley when haters tell you that only wanna-be pirates and aging baby boomers ride them? 


Take heart, Harley Davidson bikes are big, lean machines that are here to stay. They didn’t last years and years by mistake. There must be something about these motorcycles that made them an American Icon.


The Harley Sportster series is the longest running motorcycle line-up ever manufactured. It has been known as a family of bikes that mainly made Harley Davidson motor company survived throughout the years. And it is projected that in the generations to come sales will be passing through the Sportster’s alley.


Harley designers made few tweaks on their motorcycles that were substantial enough.  They made the seat lower than Sportster 883 low and slammed the suspension package.


The seat height is only 26.3 inches from the ground but made sure it won’t compromise rider comfort. It promises more compliant ride and provides stability especially when the road is bumpy. 


Riders will be assured they won’t be bopping up and down like a jiving pogo stick when traveling on not so perfect asphalt.


What makes the Sportster 883 Super low sports a beefier look that you think it is built like a tank is the wider triple trees.


The main job of the sportster 883 super low is to cater to its target market which are the bike newbies of shorter stature, that includes women. You would immediately notice the cushy, soft seat when you throw your leg over the Super low.

 The seat’s extra padding comes  as a bit of surprise because Sportsters are known for its stripped-down, streamlined Spartan appearance. The handlebars are wide. Your arms are stretch out like an ape if you grab the grips.


 The controls are mounted on the middle and the seat is move a little bit backward giving the rider a wider legroom. There’s also a 17 liter  fuel pod.


You will think the Super low is just what you adequately need especially if you ride from one traffic light to another. Insert the key fob into the ignition, push the starter and hear the recognizable vibe of  rubber mounted, 45 degree v-twin engines beneath your legs.


 The powertrain is still the same,  you will feel the familiar mill of the Sportser 883 Low you know.
Radial tires make the bike stable and predictable while on the road. The Sportster 883  Super Low is the most sophisticated among the sportster series. It is loads better than the Low it replaces.


Harley’s mission for the overall Sportster makeover is to focus on the performance, vibration, rider sitting position and the improve the aesthetic side of the bike. The  teeth loosening vibration issue had been taken care of when the Harley engineers isolate the motor from the chassis by means of rubber mounting treatment.


 Maybe you still feel the tingly sensation when you push the starter but most of the time it won’t reach your lower extremities just that sweet tiny pulse through your saddle, handlebars and footpegs.


It is a known fact that almost forty percent of Harley motorcycling students are women. That is why Harley guys give  strict considerations for women riders when they thought of the whole ergonomic revamp like making the hand grips smaller, the bars narrower, the lever-squeeze softer when braking. Sportster 883  Super low is first and foremost female friendly.


The only limitation of the Super Low is that you can’t be too an aggressive rider on it. You can flick it side to side with ease but go easy when cornering or making turns. It has a limited ground clearance and least amount of lean angle. You don’t want to scrape your pipes and footpegs.


The Sporsters line-up look almost identical   although they are quite different from each other. Their commonalities are:

1. Minimalistic looks.

2. Retro classic styling cues.

 Beyond these descriptions, on- lookers can’t distinguish these differentiating factors.

The Harley Davidson Sporster 883 Super Low maybe the first of the sportster series to handle a trip beyond the cityscapes or I might add,  a long motorcycle tour. The five speed gearbox features an easy  smooth click when you gear up or down.

The major change made however is the 4.5 gallon petrol holder, the Super Low has.. It is definitely a far cry from the tiny peanut-shaped tin of the Sportster 48 and 72. Riders no longer feel anxious if they will run dry before reaching a refilling station on a long motorcycle hiatus.

 At interstate hop speeds you can deliver  200 miles on a full tank. The rides have never been smoother. Its radial tires make potholes, gravel and twisty roads less cumbersome.

The Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Super Low is a class on its own. It’s authentic steel parts, the sweet familiar rumble when you make that first thumb-push, it’s innovative paint scheme , shimmering chrome and its lithe, nimble stability on highway speeds  undoubtedly makes it one of the family  of an American Icon.
